Cigar Box Guitars have been around for a long time. Many of the old famous bluesmen started out on cigar Box Guitars. In a way, these little babies have a big part in the history of Rock and Roll!!
As it turns out, there’s a whole community of Cigar Box Guitar makers and players out there. I just took the old Cigar Box Guitar and refined it by using quality woods and paying attention to all the details that make a fine instrument.
Sometime in the fall of ’94, a friend and I went strolling down Hollywood Blvd. We stopped into the local smoke shop and there I saw a pile of Cigar Boxes. (This was about the time I made my first guitar.) I tapped on the box and interestingly enough; it had a nice woody tone. I bought it for $1.00 and brought it home in a couple hours I had what was dubbed a Cigfiddle. It had 4 strings, and a brass tailpiece. It sounded great!
Many artists and record producers have used the Cigfiddle’s unique sound for recording and live performances. A few made their way into the hands of celebrities and cigar buffs who just love the novelty of it and some where given as gifts.
